The 92nd matchup between the East Boston football team and South Boston High takes place on Thanksgiving morning at White Stadium. Kick-off time is 9:30 a.m.
For East Boston coach John Sousa, the Turkey Day game will be his last as ends a fifteen year career as head coach. A 1968 graduate of East Boston High, he was captain of the football team in his senior year. His record from 1994 to the present stands at 117-44. In 2004, he led the Jets to a Division 3A Super Bowl win and an undefeated season at 12-0.
In 2007, the Jets advanced to the superbowl, losing to Greater Lawrence, 19-6 in zero temperatures at Gillette Stadium and ending the season at 11-1.
This year, East Boston is back in form at 8-1 and clinched the North division title on November 13 with a 29-0 win over Madison Park. The Jets are play-off bound after the Thanksgiving Day game and await finding out their opponent.
The Knights, led by Coach Sean Guthrie did not repeat last years spectacular season at 10-2 and winning the North division title. The Knights are 2-7. Their two wins occurred against Hyde Park by a score of 46-6 and Charlestown at 40-0.
Both teams have been hard at practice in recent days and are eager for a Thanksgiving Day win. Last year, the Knights prevailed, winning the game by a score of 34-6. Overall, the Jets lead the series at 43-42-6.
