Latin Academy defeated the defending Boston North champs this afternoon, 12-0 at Madison Park. LA got a lift from a second-quarter touchdown from Lazarus Shavar on a 29-yard pass and a fourth-quarter TD from Ernest Kellough on a 1-yard rush.
Stay tuned for Boston Globe reporter Lorenzo Recupero’s game story.
“We had a lot talkers from the school talking about how Madison would do sweeps the whole game and we couldn’t contain them and we couldn’t stop them,” Shavar said. “We came out here hungry. We came out and put everything in.”
Latin Academy (1-1), which lost to Millis 27-6 last week, plays English High next Friday at 6:30 p.m. at White Stadium.
“It feels good,” Kellough said of the team’s first win. “It wasn’t a good game last week but we came out hard and strong and had a good week of practice.”
Madison Park (0-1) will look for its first win of the season next week against Minuteman Tech at 4 p.m.
“We’re inexperienced and we’re just trying to get it together,” MP coach Roosevelt Robinson said. “I just think getting the first win down we’ll have [to do a] little bit more work. So hopefully it can be a building block. Latin Academy played good. They came and they played good and that’s what’s important. They deserve the win, a well fought game and they came to play.”
