BPS puts 14 basketball teams in state tournament

Fourteen BPS boys and girls basketball teams made the state tournament when the MIAA released its pairings this afternoon.

Among the eight boys teams to clinch the tournament, is East Boston (17-4), who will meet Madison Park in tonight’s city championships.

Eastie is a No. 4-seed in the Division 1 North bracket and will host the winner of No. 13-ranked Lynn English and No. 20-ranked Waltham game at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Madison Park (16-2) was seeded second in the Division 1 South bracket and will host No. 15 Natick (13-7) at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

No.5-seeded Charlestown (16-4), which barely missed the cities after it lost to MP in the final regular season game of the season, will play No. 12 Andover (12-8) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at home in the Division 1 North bracket.

Seeded sixth in Division 1 North is Boston Latin (17-5), who will host Lexington at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Brighton (18-2), who lost to MP in the semis at the cities last night, is the No. 3 seed in the Division 2 North bracket.  The Bengals will play No. 14 Woburn (10-10) at Latin Academy at 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

New Mission (14-4), who lost to Eastie in the semifinals of the cities, is a No. 4 in the Division 2 North tournament and will host No. 13 Arlington (11-9) at the Reggie Lewis Center on Wednesday.

Rounding out the boys’ tournament teams are No. 9 Snowden, who will play St. Clement’s at 7 p.m.   on Tuesday at Medford in the Division 4 North tournament and  No. 17 Westie (9-9), who will travel to No. 16 Plymouth South at 7 p.m. on Thursday in the Division 1 South bracket.

In the girls tournaments, O’Bryant (15-2) is the No. 5 seed in the Division 2 South tournament and will host No. 12 Somerset (12-5) at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Madison Park.

OB will play in the city finals tonight against Fenway, who is the No. 3 seed in the Division 4 North bracket. Fenway (14-3) will play No. 14 Matigon (9-11) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Burke.

New Mission (13-6), who lost to Fenway in the city semifinals on Wednesday, is the No. 7 seed in the Division 4 North tournament and will play No. 10 Presentation of Mary (11-9) at 7 p.m. on Tuesday at English High.

Madison Park (12-9), who lost to O’Bryant in the city semis, is No. 14 in the Division 1 South and will host No. 19 Plymouth South (10-10) at 7 p.m. on Monday.

In Division 2 North, Brighton (12-6) is a No. 4 seed and will play No. 13 Concord-Carlisle (7-11) at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Latin Academy.

West Roxbury (11-7) is the No. 12 seed in Division 1 South and will play No. 5 Quincy on the road at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
