Playing at UMass/Boston, the MP boys basketball team kept it rolling toward their goal of a state title with a semi-final win over Franklin (19-4) on Wednesday evening.  The game got antsy in the fourth for both teams, but the Cardinals pulled out a 63-60 win and now prepare for Saturday’s matchup with Brockton (winner of the Brockton-Newton North game at 5:45) for the Division 1/south title.  If successful then, the Cards are off to the TD Banknorth Garden on Monday for the Division 1 title.  The win was the third in a row for Madison Park in the state tournament.  Madison Park defeated Natick 69-62 on March 1 and Taunton 63-61 on March 3.

In the first quarter, Madison Park started off with a 4-0 lead before Franklin got on the board.  At half time, MP led 35-19 and 48-37 at the end of the third.  Franklin played hard in the fourth, scoring 23 points and while never having the lead, came close, down 1 at 58-57 with 46 seconds to play.

The breakdown of the game:

1: MP: 14; F: 11

2: MP: 21; F: 8

3: MP: 13; F: 18

4: MP: 15; F: 23
