Latin Academy survives Brighton

JAMAICA PLAIN —  It was a tale of two halves Friday afternoon at White Stadium between the top two teams in the South Division, but Latin Academy’s strong second quarter gave them just enough of a cushion, as they held on in the final seconds to beat Brighton, 21-14.

The Dragons scored all 21 points in the second quarter, including touchdown runs by junior running back Ernest Kellough and sophomore quarterback Kyle Dance.  Brighton owned the second half, scoring 14 points in the fourth quarter,  but came up one play short of potentially tying the game as time expired.

Brighton drops close one

Brighton fell at Stoneham last night, 21-12.  The Bengals were devastated by penalties and miscues, especially near the goal line.

“We had the ball first and goal at the one in the third quarter, looking to take the lead,” said Head Coach James Philip.  “Not only could we not score, we were backed up to our 35 yard line.”

Brighton’s running attack blanks English

The Brighton Bengals came into the 2011 season as the favorites to win the Boston South.   After their performance on Friday, they’re off to a good start.
Brighton shut out Boston English in their opener Friday night at White Stadium, 34-0.  The loss drops English to 1-1 after their forfeit victory over Burke in week 1A.

The Bengals controlled the line of scrimmage and ran for well over 200 yards.

Brighton Head Coach James Philip was pleased with his team’s performance on both sides of the ball.

“We worked very well as a unit,” said Philip.  “We swarmed to the ball and moved off the line well.”
